With that said, let’s check out what the best Souls-Like games are to play right now.
Dark Souls III
Release Date: 11 April 2016 | Developer: FromSoftware
The infamous Dark Souls series comes from the creators of the original Demon’s Souls game, FromSoftware. Released in February 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Demon’s Souls was the first of its type, coining the genre we know today as Souls-Like.
Bluepoint Games have since then remade Demons Souls for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 ($449.99) consoles, which has also netted it hordes of great reviews.
Following the success of Demon Souls, FromSoftware released the next series, called Dark Souls in September 2011, followed by Dark Souls II in March 2014 and Dark Souls 3 in March 2016.
Dark Souls tells the story of a world covered in fog, ruled by the Everlasting Dragons, who are neither alive nor dead, know as the Age of Ancients. A world of unchanging and neutrality. Then came fire, known as the First Flame, bringing with it the idea of disparity, dividing and defining separate states such as heat and cold, life and death as well as light and dark, after a few more event you come in.
The Dark Souls series of games are known for their punishing level of difficulty, and dark medieval fantasy world. Nothing is easy in this unforgiving world, as you simply fight to survive with sword and shield against unworldly creatures, monster and gods.
While I strongly recommend playing all three Dark Souls games, Dark Souls III is my personal favorite due to its more streamlined mechanics and gameplay. Again, I take nothing away from the previous two games, but of you do only have time for one of them, then I recommend Dark Souls III.
