You might have heard about the MTG Arena Vault and wondered where is the MTG Arena Vault is, and what it does.
The MTG Vault is a hidden system in MTG Arena, that tracks how many duplicate cards you have collected, and pays you back some of those losses, albeit a small return.
- If you receive a card in a Booster Pack, which you don’t have four copies of, you get the card added to your library collection.
- If you receive a 5th copy of a card in a Booster Pack, one of two things will happen:
- If it’s a Common or Uncommon card, the card will be added to the Vault (which you cannot see until a certain point – we can however get around this. See below for more instructions on how to see your Vault Progress).
- If it’s a Rare or Mythic card, the card will be replaced by another random rare or mythic card from the same set – NOT added to the Vault
The Vault only becomes visible once you reach 1,000 ‘Progress Points’. Each Common or Uncommon duplicate, (above 4 cards) gets added as ‘Progress Points’ to the vault at a rate of:
- 1 point for each 5th copy of a Common card
- 3 points for each 5th copy of an Uncommon card

What are the MTG Vault Rewards?
Once you reach 100% Vault capacity, the game client will alert you and ask you if you want to be your Vault to retrieve your rewards, which will consist of:
- 3x Uncommon Cards
- 2x Rare Cards
- 1x Mythic Card
If you look at the above and consider all the booster packs it probably took you to get to this point, it really isn’t a great return at all.
NOTE: You can choose not to accept them, whereby the Vault will close and keep your cards there, until you receive another 1,000 Vault Points, where you can collect your new batch of rewards, plus the ones you didn’t take this time round.
Don’t try to Farm Vault Rewards
The Vault is thus a VERY slow progressing system, so I would certainly not use it to try to get Wildcards, but rather focus on getting Wildcards from opening Booster Packs, where the return is much higher.
The Vault is just a little extra at the end of it all, but certainly nothing great either. I really feel that they should just give you some gold/gems or a wildcard in the same rarity as your 5th duplicate, and be done with it.
The Vault system is stupid and a bottomless pit in my opinion.
To try avoid your cards becoming 5th duplicates, it’s VERY important to buy Booster Packs, for the sets you have the LEAST cards. Check out my guide on the best way to get MTG Arena cards here for more tips
This way, you are far more likely to get cards that won’t be the 5th duplicate, while at the same time allowing you to farm out Wildcards, which you can use to buy the cards you need from other sets.

This way your cards, from hard earned Boosters Packs, won’t just go up in thin air and your overall collection will be far greater.
NOTE: If you own all the cards in a set (such as the Throne of Eldraine Set) and you receive a redundant Rare or Mythic Card, you’ll get gems instead: 20 Gems for Rares and 40 Gems for Mythic. These will be automatically added to the Gems Wallet, so that you can then spend them at your leisure.

Where is the MTG Arena Vault?
During the Beta, the Vault was accessible to see, as an icon next to the Gold and Gems icons, but Wizards have since then, removed it.
There was however a way to still see your MTG Arena Vault progress, using a log file, but this was also patched out, well almost, it’s still there, you just need to take a few extra steps to get there, which I am going to show how to do now.
How to see MTG Arena Vault Progress
The first thing you want to do is log into MTG Arena
- Once inside, click the ‘GEAR’ icon, in the top right hand corner, to go into your settings menu
- Click on ‘VIEW ACCOUNT’ on the bottom left of the ‘Settings Menu’
- Now tick the box, to Enable ‘DETAILED LOGS (PLUGIN REQUIRED)’
- Restart MTG Arena
- Play a Game, win or lose it doesn’t matter (this is to create a new detailed log file)
- Once you’ve played a game, go into the ‘Settings Menu’ again.
- This time, click ‘REPORT A BUG’
- A new window will open, then click ‘CAPTURE LOG’
- The Log file will be created and placed into your MTG Arena install folder (\MTGA\MTGA_Data\Logs\Issue Reports). The game will make this window automatically open for you
- This is an html file, so don’t double click it, as we want to see the code inside.
- To see the code, simply ‘Right Click’ the file and open in Notepad
- Once its open in Notepad, press ‘CTRL+F’ (for find) and the type “vaultProgess”
- Notepad will take you to that word.
- The number next to that word is your Vault Progress (duh) in percent, so mine was 9.3% out of 100% when I created this tutorial
- You can close Notepad
- When you want to check it again in maybe a week’s time or whatever, simply repeat from step 7 onwards, in order to get a new log file with you most up to date Vault Progress again.
Conclusion
We’ll guys and gals, that’s it from me for this article on how the MTG Vault works, and where to find it.
