Welcome to this 1440p 144Hz Gaming monitor buying guide. The 1440p bracket is the sweet spot for many gamers with mid to high tier level graphics cards, wanting good quality picture resolution, while also getting high performance frame and refresh rates, giving them the edge over their opponents, especially in face paced first person shooter games.
The majority of these monitors are 27″, as this screen size, mixed with a 2560×1440 pixel resolution is the optimal screen size vs resolution combination. There are however a few monitors on this list that go slightly larger, to 31.5″ at 1440p.
While 27″ does give you a better Pixel Density of 109p/inch, 31.5″ is more than acceptable at its Pixel Density of 93p/inch, especially when factoring Viewing Distance into the equation, as you will sit further away from a 31.5″ screen than a 27″ screen.
I actually used a a Sony 32″ 1080p TV as my gaming monitor for many years back in the day and had no problem with its even lower Pixel Density of 70p/inch, so 93p/inch is more than usable. In actual fact, my current 4K 60p 48″ TV also has a Pixel Density of 109p/inch and its crystal clear, sitting about 2 feet away from it as I type this.

- Conclusion – Where to Buy
Screen Size and Resolution aside, there is a good mix of all panel types in the list, between VA and IPS, with a sprinkle of TN.
HDR isn’t a major selling point in the category of monitors, as it isn’t nearly as important as the fast refresh rates, so you will see that the majority come in around 350-400nits of brightness, giving them very low HDR compatibility ratings of HDR400, if any at all.
You aren’t really buying these monitors to watch HDR movies or visually stunning, slow paced single player games anyway, so this isn’t an issue. if you are, then you at the wrong article and should rather check out my Best 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitors article.
This monitor list is in order of price, going from cheapest to most expensive.
With that said, lets take a look at the best 144Hz 1440p gaming monitors to buy right now.
